About the Studio

Hi! I'm Em, creator behind Mgnoliasun.

Mgnoliasun is a creative studio rooted in fiber, fabric, and thoughtful exploration. What began as a small handmade business has evolved into a space for learning, experimenting, and sharing the creative process as it unfolds.

Led by Emily—a maker and full-time mama—this studio is shaped by a season of life where creativity happens alongside everyday rhythms. Much of the work here is created in the margins of nap times, school days, and late evenings, embracing both momentum and pause.

Rather than rushing toward finished outcomes, mgnoliasun values curiosity, process, and slow making. This is a place for pattern drafting in progress, sewing projects and studies, tutorials built from real experience, and occasional one-of-a-kind pieces that emerge naturally from the work.

The studio embraces learning out loud—sharing what’s working, what’s still taking shape, and what’s being discovered along the way. Growth here is intentional and unhurried, allowing ideas the time they need to become something lasting.

At its heart, mgnoliasun is about honoring creative work in all its forms: the planning, the testing, the missteps, and the moments when something finally clicks.

Thank you for being here as the studio continues to evolve.

The Heart Behind the Work

  • About the name

Mgnoliasun was inspired by my late Aunt Kathy—affectionately known to me as “Mgnoliasun.” From a young age, she encouraged imagination, creativity, and the belief that anything is possible if you’re willing to explore it. This studio carries her spirit forward, holding space for dreaming, learning, and making with heart.

  • What drives the work?

I’m constantly teaching myself new skills, techniques, and ways of working. Much of what’s created here is exploratory by nature—drafted, tested, adjusted, and refined over time. Variations, missteps, and iterations aren’t flaws in the process; they’re an essential part of it. I choose to see that as a kind of beauty, and I think Aunt K would agree.

  • Where inspiration comes from

Inspiration shows up everywhere—often faster than I can keep up with it. This studio is an ongoing practice of slowing down, narrowing focus, and allowing ideas to develop thoughtfully. Collaboration, especially with other mama-owned and conscious creative businesses, is something I’m intentionally making space for as this work continues to evolve.
